From leadership skills training to certification opportunities and internal coaching, KnowBe4 proudly invests in its employees by offering the tools and support to succeed in their career journey. Our internal career coaching is a great way for Knowsters to work on their skills towards professional development. Today, we hear from Lynnette, Administrative Performance Coach, who shares a little bit about herself, her role as a coach, and how our Knowsters can work with her to develop or improve healthy working habits.

Lynnette, Administrative Performance Coach

What do you do in your role as Administrative Performance Coach?

As Administrative Performance Coach, I help Knowsters with soft skills that they find difficult or simply want to develop. They will always be the subject matter experts in their role, but I help with time management, communication, and leadership, to name a few.

What has your career journey at KnowBe4 been like?

I was so lucky to have started my journey in the Finance Sector as an Order Processor. Not only did I get the opportunity to help the sales team reach their goals, but I was able to help customers get their consoles ready for use. After talking with our very own Career Dave, I decided I wanted to work toward becoming a coach. Then, about a year or so into working toward the goal, I was selected to join the coaching team and the rest is history!

What is a common theme you discuss with employees?

Just as there are many seasons of our career journeys, common themes seem to ebb and flow. Time management, effective communication, and critical thinking tend to be the most common themes that come up while I’m working with Knowsters. My favorite topic right now is how to give and receive feedback, gracefully.

What advice would you give someone who is struggling to stay motivated?

First of all, you’re human. We all struggle with motivation, so you are not alone in this. The single most important thing you can do is to acknowledge you are struggling and ask for help. After that, it’s all about how you handle it. Pro tip: eliminate the “I am going to [do this]” and replace it with “I am [doing this].” It’s my favorite mind-over-matter trick because it overrides the procrastination thoughts and replaces them with action.

How can a Knowster set up a time to meet with you?

Knowsters can schedule a session on my calendar, shoot me a message, or send over an email. I am also in the office on Wednesdays and set aside “office hours” for any coaching needs.

What do you like to do in your free time outside of work?

I truly enjoy gardening. I even started a Green Thumbs group for plant lovers at KnowBe4! On Sunday mornings, I love grabbing breakfast and coffee with my son and walking around in St. Petersburg. We take photos of nature and get some quality time to talk about the week. I’m also a Wisconsin Cheese Ambassador and get to throw fun cheese parties once in a while.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence through every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing that you think you cannot do.“ - Eleanor Roosevelt.

I’m a big believer in mind-over-matter. If you say you aren’t able to do something, you 100% cannot and will not do it. If you want to achieve something, you have to set aside all those little voices in your mind that say you won’t be successful. In other words: see it, say it, do it!
