Sustainable Halloween

Halloween is a huge event at KnowBe4, not just in the U.S., but across the globe. International offices celebrated Halloween with each of their teams, and once again, our employees showed us how to celebrate sustainably.

Halloween Around the Globe

Many of our costumes came from our Shenanigans team costume closet, and went right back to the closet to be used again (reuse!) in the future. No need to buy new every time!

But the real tricks and treats were in the innovative ways teams slashed waste. At KnowBe4, we continuously look for innovative ways to reduce waste. So, in addition to reusing costumes, Knowsters found several other creative ways to make Halloween more sustainable.

Take, for instance, our Training department, whose theme was Jurassic Park (which incidentally won second place in our Clearwater Halloween Contest). Much of the setup was created using repurposed items and materials (#repurpose) from prior construction projects and Halloween sets. The wires and ducts hanging from the ceiling were upcycled from a previous renovation project in the building. They are still put to use when necessary and were put back into storage after the set was deconstructed. They also borrowed beakers and animal cages (#reuse) from our Facilities team’s Halloween set last year. Even tablecloths and cardboard became handmade scenery, all destined for another round in the recycling bin. Yep, the plastic tablecloths were recyclable and went into our plastic bag recycling bin at KnowBe4 as a part of our robust zero-waste program.

Our MIS and Product Management/Services team, whose theme was Super Mario (which incidentally won first place in our Clearwater Halloween Contest) has a similar story. They repurposed items and materials (#repurpose) from prior construction projects such as PVC pipes, which went back into the storage closet afterward. Like Jurassic Park, most of the other items were made of recycled materials like cardboard and plastic tablecloths that were then recycled afterward.

At the end of the day, in addition to all of the items and materials we repurposed and reused, we also recycled a total of 233 pounds of cardboard, plastic tablecloths, and construction paper. Save money and Mother Earth, too! Now, that's next-level treat-or-treating if you ask me.

While we all work hard at KnowBe4, we also have fun while doing it and take responsibility for our environmental impact along the way!
